Do you feel like your butt looks a little flat in your favorite jeans? Do you think you’d feel younger if you had your buttocks lifted? If so, a Brazilian butt lift performed by Dr. Dustin C. Derrick, MD, Fort Worth, TX’s premier plastic surgeon at Cosmetic Surgery of DFW for Mommy Makeovers may be right for you. You also may be a good fit for other procedures commonly performed during a mommy makeover. Here’s the lowdown.
How Long Does a Brazilian Butt Lift Take?
How long your procedure takes depends on a number of factors, including how much excess fat you want to be removed from your areas of concern and how much fat needs to be administered into your buttocks. The more excess fat you would like removed, the longer you can expect your procedure to take. Similarly, you can expect your procedure to take longer if you need a significant amount of fat injected into your buttocks.
As a general rule of thumb, you can expect your procedure to take around three to four hours to complete. We can give you a better idea of how long you can expect your procedure to take during your initial consultation once Dr. Derrick has evaluated your concerns and goals.
How Soon Will I Be Able To See My Desired Results?
You will notice the fat removal results of your procedure right away. However, it will be several weeks before you can enjoy the final butt augmentation and lift results. How long this takes depends on a number of factors, including how well you take care of yourself once your surgery is over. As a general rule of thumb, you can expect your final results to become apparent after roughly six months.
How Can I See My Desired Results As Quickly as Possible?
To see your results as quickly as possible, it is of the utmost importance that you do not smoke, drive, or sit on your buttocks. It is also extremely important that you sleep, eat, and drink right, maintain your weight, dress appropriately, and start to exercise roughly two months post-op.
One of the most important things to avoid if you want to see your final results as quickly as possible is the consumption of nicotine. When you consume nicotine, your circulatory system’s ability to deliver nutrients and oxygen through your bloodstream. This will affect how quickly the transplanted fat can take hold in your buttocks. It will also affect how quickly your skin can heal at the incision sites.
It is also very important that you do not drive during the first six to eight weeks following your procedure. If you apply too much pressure to your buttocks too soon after the fat has been transferred, it will squish and suffocate. One of the primary recovery goals is to keep the transferred fat cells from suffocating so they can take root in your buttocks and thrive permanently.
While you shouldn’t drive during the first six to eight weeks post-op, you don’t need to go around two months without sitting. Going just three to four weeks without sitting directly on your bottom is sufficient for ensuring your fat takes hold as quickly as possible and enough fat survives the transfer process. If you have to sit, we strongly recommend investing in a BBL pillow.
This specially designed pillow will allow you to sit without applying an excessive amount of pressure to your buttocks. If you don’t want to invest in a special pillow, a bath towel will do the trick. Roll it up so it is shaped like a hot dog, and put it beneath your lower thighs. Just make sure you get up and walk around regularly to ensure you do not cut off blood flow to your buttocks. If you feel like your butt is falling asleep, it is time to get up and get more blood flowing.
If you want to recover and enjoy your final results as quickly as possible, it is imperative that you hydrate sufficiently. To help you hydrate, consider adding a few tiny pinches of Himalayan salt to your water. Sodium helps your body retain water. Himalayan salt is better than regular table salt because it tastes better and contains more trace minerals, like calcium, potassium, and magnesium.
If you don’t want to add salt to your water, you can drink other beverages that contain sodium and other minerals. For example, during the first two months post-op, you may want to drink:
- Smart Water
- Coconut water
To facilitate rapid recovery and ideal results, it is important that you eat nutritiously during the first two months post-op. Try to incorporate a lot of healthy fats in your diet from such sources as:
- Coconut oil
- Grass-fed butter
Smoothies are also great to incorporate into your post-op diet. Just strongly consider using whole Greek yogurt as a base for your smoothie rather than ice cream. Greek yogurt, like Icelandic yogurt, is much richer in amino acids than regular yogurt. Amino acids are important for a rapid recovery because they are used by your skin to produce collagen. Ideal ingredients to consider adding to your smoothie include:
- Peanut butter
- Almond milk
- Chia seeds
- Flax seeds
During the first two months following your procedure, it is imperative that you do not sleep on your back. We strongly recommend sleeping on your stomach because you are far less likely to roll onto your back if you start in that position. Nonetheless, if you are extremely confident that you will not roll over onto your back accidentally in your sleep, it is okay to sleep on your side.
Maintain Your Weight
Even if you don’t think enough fat was removed from your problem areas during the lipo portion of your BBL, do not try to lose weight during the first two months post-op. You may burn fat in your buttocks while the newly transferred cells are trying to survive. Also, try to not gain more than five pounds of fat.
It is also extremely important for the sake of your final results that you dress appropriately during the first eight weeks following your surgery. If you wear underwear, shorts, or pants that are too tight, the newly transferred fat cells will be squeezed too tightly and suffocated. Too many fat cells will die, and your final results will not be satisfactory. Wear loose clothes for a couple of months, and then you can wear whatever makes you feel confident.
Approximately two months post-op, it is okay to get into some vigorous workout sessions. Exercise, especially cardio, is great for facilitating the circulation of vital growth factor- and nutrient-rich blood. After eight weeks, the transplanted fat cells should have a strong enough hold that they can survive vigorous exercise. However, you should still avoid exercises that will apply a lot of pressure to your buttocks, like biking.
Note, it is okay to get in regular light workout sessions during the first two months of your recovery period. However, we’d like to reiterate that you should not try to lose weight. Small-scale fluctuations are to be expected, but you should not lose more than five pounds.
