Liposuction and S.A.F.E. Lipo sound alike — here’s how they actually differ.
Liposuction and S.A.F.E. Lipo may have similar names; however, they are not the same. Traditional liposuction is a more aggressive fat-removal procedure, while S.A.F.E. Lipo is a refined body-contouring technique designed to remove fat while producing a smooth, natural result.
Traditional liposuction is performed by a plastic surgeon using suction tubes (cannulas) inserted under the skin to remove fat around problem areas. It is one of the quickest ways to remove localized body fat and typically requires anesthesia.
S.A.F.E. Lipo — Separation, Aspiration, and Fat Equalization — is a body-contouring technique intended to remove fat deposits in problem areas such as the thighs, waist, chest, and love handles. Its systematic approach helps prevent contour irregularities and produces smoother, more natural results. Dr. Derrick believes this approach offers improved results over traditional liposuction.
Aside from the technique itself, the main difference comes down to the needs of the patient and the quality of the final contour. S.A.F.E. Lipo’s fat-equalization step is designed to leave a smoother, more even result, and the harvested fat can even be repurposed for procedures such as a Brazilian Butt Lift.
If you are already in relatively good shape but have a few stubborn fatty deposits, S.A.F.E. Lipo may be the perfect solution — targeting areas such as the thighs, hips, waist, and chest. The best way to determine which approach is right for you is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Derrick.
