The signs of sagging that indicate a breast lift may help.
There are many factors that can lead to sagging breasts, including aging, pregnancy, and weight fluctuations. Some women choose to combat droopy breasts with a breast lift — a surgical procedure that removes excess skin and tightens the breast tissue for a more youthful appearance. This procedure is often part of the mommy makeover at Cosmetic Surgery of DFW, performed by our lead plastic surgeon, Dustin C. Derrick, MD.
The best candidates are in good general health and are nonsmokers. It is also important that candidates are at a stable weight; if you are planning to have children, it’s best to wait until your childbearing days are over before having a breast lift.
You may consider this procedure if you experience any of the following:
A breast lift is performed as an outpatient procedure. During surgery, your breast tissue is reshaped and, when necessary, the size of your areolas may be reduced. Once excess skin is removed, the nipples are shifted to a higher position. Afterward, your breasts will likely be covered with gauze and you’ll wear a surgical support bra as recommended — typically round-the-clock for the first three to four days.
For the first few days, avoid bending, lifting, and straining, and sleep on your back to take pressure off your breasts. Most women are fully recovered about six weeks after surgery. While the results are long-lasting, some sagging will naturally occur as we age and lose skin elasticity; maintaining a healthy lifestyle helps you retain your results. Would you like to know more?
